This is an ancient Mayan city with a name that is very similar to a very popular name in the Book of Mormon, Laman. This may be nothing more than a coincidence, but does raise the eyebrow.

  • Just so you know...the cities name comes from the original word 'Lama'anayin', meaning "submerged crocodile" in Yucatec Maya. It may be connected it may not be. I am LDS, but have my degree in archaeology. I like to look for good solid evidence of the Book of Mormon, but also think we should be careful the links are solid lest it detract some from the real spiritual aspects if those links prove to be unsolid.

  • @MayanMomma I completely agree. It is a possibility but I wouldn't rest my testimony on it by any means.

  • @MayanMomma What is the bast book you would recomend about evidences? I want to buy one.

  • @howilefttheldschurch FWIW, I would recommend "An Ancient American Setting for The Book of Mormon" by John Sorenson, or Brant Gardners "Second Witness: Analytical and Contextual Commentary on the Book of Mormon." It is a six-part commentary on the BOM which covers evidences as well. There are many other books on archaeological evidences, but several which don't stand up to scrutiny.

  • From the information that I have gathered, non LDS researchers say that the name Lamonai comes from someone by the name Lamon and a river and it is its original name. I want to go there some day. In this video I see machinery. Is that from the same period? If so that would be the first evidence of the machinery mentioned in the Book of Mormon. If it is ancient what is it made of. Steel ( which they had ) would have rusted by now. Perhaps hardened copper? Does anyone know for sure?

  • @mrridgerunner No. The machinery is recent, built by Europeans.

  • Whoever took this trip, I am so jealous. :)

  • I got a BS(Bachlor of Science) and this just shows I have a University education and am able to think. While I love that more and more Archeological evidence is proving the Book of Mormon to be true, it will never be logic or science that proves the truth of the gospel of Jesus Christ but the Holy Spirit. My advice is to read the Book of Mormon, live the teachings as an experiment and I promise you that you will find a change a literal change of heart to the truth.

  • anyone knows how long ago were the mayans here on earth???????

  • @PrezBarkORama The machinery that you see in the video is post-Columbian and should be ignored, but this is the best footage I could find of Lamanai.

  • @howilefttheldschurch LOL your username, he I liked the video about Mormons not being racist.

But I think its better if you change the title, just a suggestion.

  • That is a maya construction with some spanish construction close by. There were not metal instruments in maya or aztec culture, otherwise they were used them for war and they were killed every spanish conquistador and maybe invaded the world too. They were using gold for decoration.
