http://www.steviesnacks.com - Lesson 2 from "The 5 Essential Blues Boxes" series. As promised, I now get into more detail about Box 1, which I consider the most important of them all.

In the free version of the lesson, I go over the structure of the box in detail, I also explain what some of the most important notes in this box can be used for, as well as some special "in-between" notes.

In the 20 minute version, which can be purchased in HD at the website, I also cover

*Transitioning from Box 1 (the Root Box ) to Box 2 (the Albert King box )
*The secret double life of Box 1. How you can play happy sounding riffs, right out of box 1 by using some "hidden" notes.
*Transitioning from Box 1, down to Box 5 (the Major Root box )

The full lesson is available in HD for $5.00 and has tons of more details in it.

  • Hey man Ive been watching your videos and they help me out a lot i really appreciate it thank you. I really like Stevie ray and the bluesy stuff but i like playing by Van halen style of music i like that rock tone do you think that by learning and knowing all of the 5 boxes and having all of the stuff in the essential theory bundle(155$) in muscle memory i can play rock and roll with it? like led zeppelin and Van halen, ,Can these boxes and fretboard theory be played with that type of music?

  • @PersianPrideTime For zeppelin, sometimes. For Van Halen, mostly not. Although there were times when Eddie played some minor pentatonic stuff, his playing is far beyond any kind of fretboard navigation I teach. You'll probably actually need to learn more music theory for that style of playing. My stuff is good for straight ahead blues, and blues rock, not very applicable to hard rock or metal.

  • Get supthin for that restless leg =)

    good vid brother

  • I have since started nailing the toe of my shoe to the floor :-)

  • Anthony, I would like to learn some of those long fast licks like the one you played in the intro at about 0:07. Do you know where I could find some lessons or tabs for those kind of long cascading licks?

  • I don't have any tabs for any licks that long, but some of my lessons that are labled "monster" at the beginning teach some pretty fast licks :-)
