That's Buddy Johnson driving the Pontiac. Also shown are Resident State Trooper Bill Ackerman, Dance Teacher Marie Leroy Keane, First Selectman Joe Bransfield and the mighty PHS marching band under the direction of Eric Osterling. Osterling was a brilliant musician and was nationally known for arranging the music for the 1957 Oscar winning film, "Bridge on the River Kwai" starring William Holden.
I am the scout bringing up the rear for Troop 49. Please contact me if you or any of your relatives can be seen in the video. It would fun to see how many participants we can identify. Would love to hear your story and any of the Firefighters, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, Brownies etc. Or if you have any other connection to the parade.
Thanks,
Erik

  • Belmont, I would love to put a clip of the scouts and cubs marching on the Connecticut River Council (BSA) web site. Let me know if this is OK.

  • Thank you for your interest. It looks like you have a brand new channel here. if you like the video, all you need to do is add to your favorites and it will appear on your YT channel in your favorites section. You can play around with your channel design to give it (and other favorites) equal exposure on par with your uploads.

  • Yeah i own a victorian on main st. My historic house has no photo of it at all. I went through all the historical society photos, the the Connecticut Historical Society Photos, and I only found 1 from 1950's. That's why I ask you what you have heheh :-)

  • I prolly delivered the Hartford Courant to your house in 1965 when I was a paperboy. I had about 40 customers.

  • WOW, you can see the river so clear then. And the street was so tree lined. It irritates me that they do nothing to keep it tree lined.

  • Do you live in Portland?
