A one minute tribute video.

Complete silence didn't seem appropriate to acknowledge the passing of a man who can be heard on this very channel via his amazing voice-over work.

I chose a few brief snippets of Don's voice. At the beginning is a quick cut of his interview on Dateline in 2000 and at the very end... they way I'd like to think Don would have ended this video tribute.

On a personal note: Those of us who take our trailers and advertising seriously knew about Don and the other members of "The Big Five" years before the Geico car insurance ads put a face to the voice of Don Lafontaine. Don's voice helped solidify all the memories we had as kids, and into adulthood, of the movie trailers he worked on. He has literally inspired this YT channel into being with over 5,000 movie trailer voice-overs during his career. Even if your not familiar with the name..you have surely heard his work right here on Drive-In Of The Damned, or at your local movie theater, throughout his amazing career.

Our prayers and thoughts are with Don's family.

  • I appreciate you making these tributes. Respect for the god!

  • Honestly. Without Don. There would never have been a DIOTD channel on YT. Just wouldn't have happened.

He was THAT influental and ground-breaking in the field of movie advertising. As everyone here knows..DIOTD is 100% about the advertising so it goes without saying that I feel, as many of you do as well, a great personal loss with the announcement of his passing.

  • My Uncle Don.

Even if you didn't love his voice he was the most caring sweet person in the world.

The house just won't be the same :/

  • God Bless you, Don, and may you rest in peace!

  • The voice of 42nd St.back in the day of The Harris,The Selwyn and other great theaters where you could carry in a six pack and smoke cigarettes while listening to Don sell you on the latest offering from Italy.

  • The vast silence that made up most of this, followed by his closing quote, was perfect genius.

(I'm reminded of the ad in AdWeek magazine, the week that Mel Blanc died, with all of the WB cartoon characters standing with heads bowed in front of an empty microphone, and the single word caption, "Speechless.")

    Well done.
