Detoured CTA Red Line, Madison to Chicago Ave. (Pt. 2)

What you can't hear is the unintentinally hilarious reactions of horrified passengers.

"What's the Red Line doing up here?" "It's not running in the subway?" "You mean I have to walk two blocks!?" "I have to transfer to a BUS!?"

Come on, people! Adapt or perish! This detour was announced beforehand in the media. None of the stations on the detour are more than eight blocks from those on the normal route. Most were one or two. Roosevelt and Clark/Lake are free transfers! Get a route map; they're free at every station! And be happy the CTA is maintaining its infrastructure!

One advantage of this temporary route, that usually only Purple and Brown Line passengers get to enjoy: A beautiful vista of the skyscrapers on either side of the Chicago River, and the bascule bridges across it.

CTA construction sucks, but it has to be done sometime. I heard if we win the olympics we are going to get bigger and better trains which I'm kind of hoping for...

It would be nice, though, if they performed regular maintenance and didn't defer repairs until there were 15mph slow zones. And all this money they're spending chasing the Olympics could be used for fixing CTA tracks and filling potholes.

I can remember when this line was detoured before this, in the late 90's I think, because of water getting into the tubes.

I think a zillion dollors for CTA and Olympics for Chicago would work out nicely Chicago is a one party state with a white Mayor M Daily and Black people who work in cook county who don't go through the hireing process which has got to change Nepitism is bad. wow the CTA drivers say the station when your leaving for it and arriving and say all the connection info stuff. in boston they say it when your leaving if they say it at all

No, but the train operator's announcements can. So can the train arrival announcements based in each station,"ATTENTION, CUSTOMERS. AN INBOUND TRAIN, FOR THE LOOP, WILL BE ARRIVING SHORTLY."

Living near the 47th St. Red Line station, I hear those 24 hours a day.

pardon my ignorance, but are the announcements on the train heard outside the train?

The CTA's been working on the tracks, signals and wiring in the State Street subway nights and weekends for nearly two years now. During those times, Red Line trains use the Orange, Green and Brown Line elevated tracks through the Loop downtown.

I feel sorry for the tourists, especially the ones who take the under-reconstruction Blue Line from O'Hare to downtown and suddenly discover they have to switch from the train to a shuttle bus to continue their trip.

Why is the Red Lines not traveling underground instead of use elevated tracks of Brown and Purple lines trains on the weekends?
