Though having long-since lost regard for the institutions of religion, I find the sentiments of these old spirituals still speak in an emotion from childhood, when children sat in a line beside dear parents now taken away. Something of them was the essence of our simple faith, in the time before crystal cathedrals and mega-churches distorted the image of the Christ-being and drained the spirit of love.

How embarassing for someone who used to own a beauty salon and owned her own line of cosmetics also. But if it was just at a church, there were no professional make up people to help her and I don't think she ever had a maid at home.

I've heard a story of that occurring and she, always one for a good laugh, responded with, "well at least it wasn't my head!" Lol! I can't imagine all the wires, snaps, and duct-tape it took to hold up the mighty wig from the "Amazing Grace" video!
