I don't know. That was certainly true three, four years ago, but ever since Cold Roses, Ryan's live shows have been pretty safe. With the exception of the Minneapolis show in mid-2007, his entire fall tour went off without a hitch. Plus, it was fantastic - he's really clicked with the Cardinals, and the stuff they create (live Sun Also Sets, new Dear Chicago, deep setlists [29, Faithless Street, etc]) blow my mind.
I agree with you on that. Love his talent and _some_ of his live performances more. But sometimes he's just a dud live. He's too damn moody and the setting can throw him off.

His albums are great, but he's an asshole during live performances. Too bad. Selfish person, that much was revealed in Chicago four years ago by his throwing his guitar and walking off stage, and his berating of his band, and his stopping/restarting the same song three times, and his disregard for the audience (like me that drove six hours to see him) by playing three times in a row, each time worse than the time before. Buy albums for enjoyment. Buy tickets at your own risk.
Why did it have to end? Could've watched that all day.
