Would it not be more practical to alter the load and projectiles towards your desired target range High & Low point than to actually physically alter the sights with a file which can not be undone?

Now with 75 Grains of 3f and a cotton patched ball she shoots consistently to point of aim at 100 Yards and would certainly bring home the meat.I must confess to a certain amount of pride that it is possible to produce a rifle using basic tools and Metals. Greetings to the gentleman in the Video, who obviously knows his subject very well.

During the Zeroing process I almost abandoned the project thinking my Twist was too slow, until I realised that she shot consistently high and right. Thinking that the Ball would drop a lot I mistakenly fitted a very low front sight blade.Made up a high blade and filed it down at the range. The elevation was now OK. Knocked the front sight over to the right and she was on target.

Further, it took me a whole winter to produce my Rifle, It took an eternity Many Weeks)to Zero in and work up a decent patched Ball load.It was after further Lapping that suddenly She was on Target. Polish Her most days and she is starting to look antique.
Rifle as follows:- 50 Cal Patched Ball, 40" Barrel 15/16" across Flats,Brass Furniture including ornate Patch Box

I'd replace that front sight so it sits on the barrel. Standing up like that one little bump and your shooting off. You can always file the noch in the rear sight down instead of replacing teh frt sight
