In her short life, Kelly has seen the best and the worst of humanity. The pit bull terrier puppy, who is believed to be between six and nine months old, was found badly injured and starving, wandering the streets in Philadelphia. When the puppy was taken in by the New Jersey chapter of the animal rescue organization Animal Alliance, it was determined she had been used as a "bait dog," a small dog used to draw out the aggression in fighting dogs. Whether she was abandoned or she escaped, Kelly made it into the hands of a loving foster family in Somerset County. Despite the abuse she suffered, she is friendly and affectionate, making Animal Alliance hopeful that she will find a permanent home when she is ready for adoption in about five weeks. For more information about adopting a rescued animal, see the organization's website at www.animalalliancenj.org. (Video by Nyier Abdou/The Star-Ledger)

  • Aww adorable!

  • @nickole1990 One more thing, throwing a puppy in between two fighting pit bulls doesn't 'whip up their aggression'.

The pit bulls they use for fighting are 'game bred', meaning they don't stop fighting, and don't need to have their aggression whipped up. Once they are 'turned on' the don't stop.

Game bred pit bulls are amazing dogs. Very, Very Smart, Love People, Gentle with children, and Loads of Personality and want to please their masters.

Its too bad people treat them so ba

  • @nickole1990 Nicole, that is just well meaning propaganda organizations like PETA invent to raise money from good people.

The truth is that they use old pit bulls and docile pit bulls. Old and docile pit bulls fight back but only enough to build the confidence of the adolescent pit bull being groomed for the pit.

Most pit bulls, even fighting dogs, will play with puppies (excepting for reasons of jealousy and food) A dog that just kills puppies will also bit people.

  • @Zresponder They just use them for bait... hints the name bait dogs. And yes, some start them out at a young age.

  • What a sweetheart! This story makes me cry.

  • this bit dog shit is pure lies.

  • dog fighters don't fight puppies.

  • @keyofdavid888 nah--throw the evil fucks out of airplanes: nothing like three or four minutes knowing you're about to be dead & you can't do a damn thing about it. THEN shoot 'em!

  • dog fighters should be shot

  • using animals to fight is cowardly and cruel... thankfully not everyone is inhumane when it comes to animals. As a volunteer, i know of many dogs, including pitbulls, that are extremely loving despite the harm that people caused them. Just goes to show that we should strive to adopt some of their qualities...
