Richard had been diagnosed with multiple scleroses a few months before this interview, but he wasn't yet ready to reveal his illness to the public. He didn't publicize his condition until five years later, when it was much further along. R.I.P.

Barbara was dating that other black dude in the '70s which she wrote about, so it's not unthinkable that she'd like Richard. He had charisma with the ladies. She DOES seem to be into him. And as Paul Mooney says, "who ELSE can you remember her interviewing THREE different times?"
