On the morning of 24th April 2007, Type 3 diesel loco number 37406 "The Saltire Society" appeared (eventually), working a heavy steel train formed of coils etc from Bescot to Burton.
The loco could be heard slogging up the bank from Ryecroft Junction a good four minutes or so before she came into view.

  • OMG..........That is impresive! There must be well over 1000t behind that old dear but what a performance. Glad to see she is back in traffic with 401 today(28/3/09) with 37670 out next week and 37425 going for OTMR fitting after the MNR gala. THE TRACTORS ARE BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Rumour has it that when new, the "EE Type 3" was the quietest diesel on the railway. But they had trouble with the exhaust system cracking, so they took out the silencer completely. No more cracking problems, but now it's apprximately the loudest diesel on the railway!
