  • I play my pedal C's with all 3 valves. I've tried to play it open and the sound that comes out Is about an A below pedal C. Why is that the pitch I am getting when I try to play pedal C open?

  • Thanks for your message. When attempting to play pedal C at first, if done correctly, it is common for a Bb or A to come out. Chances are that he aperture is just a bit too open and you need to learn to adjust it until the pitch locks in. Pedals require a lot of air, but don't open the aperture too much or pitch suffers (just like the normal range of the trumpet). think of a clutch and gas pedal. When opening the clutch, you must supply enough gas otherwise the car stops. Don't open too much!

  • Yo Charlie, this vid is really really cool. It's definitley helped me adapt my thinking about range and registers. And I have found that once you get used to playing the octaves slurs in and out of the pedal register, you start to realise how close together everything actually is. My only question to you is, why do you not count double pedal C as part of the C harmonic series?

  • Hey Uruhuru! Thanks for your comment. Actually Double Pedal C is not part of the real harmonic series. The harmonic series starts with an octave (from Pedal C to Middle C below the staff), then a fifth, then a fourth, then a major third, then a minor third, etc. The harmonic series is a natural progression of harmonics which is present in every notes we hear. They are even present in your own voice! Check out some throat singers.

  • I try to play it but I usually pause to set my embouchure. Is that considered cheating?

  • @suazobomber @hotlipsporter I try many time with many mouthpieces, only monette can easy to play pedal C in tune.

  • A normal trumpet tutor can teach about 3-24 students in a year. This guy? He can teach millions.

  • Some of the best trumpet lessons I've gotten! This has helped my range so much than I expected, thank you

  • I'm playing the pedal c open like you said, but is it bad if my lips sort of "flip out" too much when I play that note? Because i'm finding it difficult to play a pedal c to a middle c without adjusting my lips(since they stick out so much)

    thanks

  • What are some exercises available that you recommend to help get to the point to play pedal C?

  • merci. bravo!!!!

  • great tips charlie!! thanks....

  • @hotlipsporter Monet?

  • When i try it open i sound like you when u use false fingering
