On November 25, 2008, 9-year-old Erica Forney was riding her bike just steps from her home. A neighbor, who was driving an SUV at 25 miles per hour, looked down at her cell phone as she finished a call and never saw the child in her path. Erica was struck and thrown 15 feet, landing on her neck. She died two days later on Thanksgiving Day.
Erica's mother, Shelley Forney, is now an advocate against distracted driving.

Though we are visually reminded of the horrific, fatal consequences of distracted driving, we seem to have become immune to the reality of these precious stolen faces, cringing accident images, unable to be sensitized enough to determine to not drive impaired or distracted. The real, heartfelt lifelong pain and grief, families must volunteer to endure as a result of some driver's selfish, irresponsible decision to operate a multi-media device while driving is inexplainable and sadly, avoidable.
