*tells the truth to conservatives but not to all Canadians*

Majority government in reach: Harper

Prime Minister Stephen Harper believes a majority government "is in reach" for the Conservative party the next time Canadians go to the polls for a federal election.

In candid remarks made last week to Conservative supporters in Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., at a meeting that was closed to the media, Harper stressed the need for the party to capture a majority.

"Let me be clear about this, we need to win a majority in the next election campaign," Harper said. "I am not just saying that because we need to win a few more seats."

He said that if the Conservatives don't succeed in getting a majority he predicted the Liberals will govern in a coalition with the NDP and the Bloc Québécois.

"If they get together and force us to the polls, we have to teach them a lesson and get back there with a majority, and make sure their little coalition never happens," said Harper.

Harper's speech was videotaped by someone in the audience and a copy of the address was sent to the Liberal Party of Canada, which sent it to CBC News. The Liberals claim the tape shows that Harper doesn't want to work with the other parties in Parliament and therefore justifies Liberal Party Leader Michael Ignatieff's threat to force an election.

Publicly, the Conservatives have said it will be irresponsible of the opposition parties to bring down the government and send Canadians back to the polls.

The Liberals have said they will try to bring down the Conservative minority government at the first opportunity.

Parliament resumes Sept. 14, and the Liberals will have their first opportunity to present a no-confidence motion on Oct. 1.

Bloc Québécois Leader Gilles Duceppe said earlier this week an election appears to be inevitable.

"Mr. Ignatieff doesn't seem to look like he's going to back down, and Mr. Harper is not the kind of man who makes compromises or who achieves consensus so I think the chances of an election are great — more than great," Duceppe said.

The Liberals and the Bloc Québécois have both released a round of election-style advertisements.

  • Bye Bye Iggy, back to America where you belong.

I was hoping for liberals to rule over Canada and continue there SponsorShip Scandals again whilst they blame everyone else bar their own for massive corruption.

Maybe that civil war would come sooner then and we could kick out the third world and all foreign interests that now own Canada, like 85% of the media belonging to American mega corps and all being hardcore left propaganda.

Or how the left sold all our resources to China

  • @Silentsam7532 I agree with you. I'm tried

Of these Liberal appointed judges here in Canada. My cousin had a man beat the crap

Out of him. Got on top of him looked him in

The eye and said I'm going to kill you and then stabbed him. He's lucky to be alive. The Liberal judge gave him 18 months.

  • @Baseshocks He has done some good things I will admit. I just feel he does more damage than good. I like dropping the long gun registry, and I like trading with Asia more. We need to have more economic freedom, and to cut our ties to that sinking rock called America.

  • @Baseshocks When I say he I mean the conservatives as a whole of course.

First the cuts that forced them to cut monitoring of the Ozone in the arctic was a huge blow to the worlds scientific community. We gathered 60% of that data.

His policies on crime are backwards and foolish. He is wasting money on prisons. The jets are the other obvious joke.

He is too often trying to lead us to an American way though. I hate to think of Canada being more like America.

  • @Silentsam7532 But he is the best/only politician at the moment who can do the job. In what way is he ruining Canada's reputation?

  • @Silentsam7532 How is he ruining Canada? He is the only politician to speak of Canada's Arctic since Diefenbaker. He has set trade deals with India, China and Brazil, he is promoting Canadian business to do business in other nations too not just the U.S. The budget deficit was due to the recession, the Liberals wanted him to spend a lot more then he did... He is a bit of a Doushebag at times and i do not agree with everything he does, continued.

  • @Baseshocks He was the most educated person running at the time. I wil admit I knew little else besides that about him.

My main reason for supporting him were his education level and his experience abroad. I also found that there was no good attacks against him. The only attacks were trying to make him sound pro-American and un-Canadian, when history showed something quite different. he spent most of his time in Europe.

Harper is just a nightmare. He is ruining Canada's name.

  • @AngryIntellectual Canada is its own nation, we do not need to keep behind the U.S, Proper defense spending for us and our allies Dutch, Australia, New Zealand etc.. Harper has banned corporate and union donations to political party's he limited personal donations to $1100 for one person to stop corruption. Changing rules that senate members have to be voted in... after all this people call him a fascist and corporate controlled? These people who rant are fucking slow....

  • @AngryIntellectual Most of the lashes on Harper are mindless. Their are some policies i do not agree with too. But when these people rave they do not say why they are mad.. they just call him a war monger because he is replacing rusted out military equipment... lol. Canada is the 10th richest nation on the planet to spend 30 billion out of 1.4 trillion a year on defense is peanuts and yet people still go nuts?? Spain, even Australia spends more.. they are not warmongers...

  • @BoredomCorner what revenge? do you have a link....

  • @Silentsam7532 Iggy are you fucking madd or just a liberal lover... did you ever watch him in the house of commons.. fighting and arguing over nothing, even Jack would agree for what he thought was right... Iggy would just fight it because he can.. he had no stance..
