Actually, he was right on. The reason the brick filled one whole side is that the texture wrapped around the whole cube instead of just filling one side. You can see this because the image of the brick drawing is on one of the other sides. it wasn't an error in scale, but in how the texture was set to wrap or duplicate on the faces. The only confusion regarding the metric system is your belief that working with scale conversion is limited to Americans. Your analysis is what went wrong here.
I love it when Americans get confused using the metric system...OK... you have a box that is 1 meter square (1000mm)...you created a 257mm brick texture to apply to the box texture...all this to demonstrate scale.
Your brick texture stretched to the width of the box (1 meter) where it should have been 1/4 of the size (width)
I'm enjoying your tutorials and I appreciate the effort you have made in presenting them to the public. However...I think this one went a bit wrong scale wise.
