A presentation of operatic works, providing a window into Russian folklore including "Boris Gudunov" by Modest Mussorgsky, "The Queen of Spades" and "Eugene Onegin" by Piotr Tchaikovsky. Presented and narrated by Professor Emeritus of Slavic Languages and Literatures Irwin Weil, conducted and directed by Natalia Lyashenko of the Northwestern School of Music. Video produced by the Multimedia Learning Center, Northwestern University.

  • Great! Thanks everyone for learning Russian language and music! Who's the pianist? He's amazing! His part is very important for the success of the whole thing. Where did he study?

  • I like Tchaikovsky so much more than Mussorgsky. Mussorgsky was something of a Russian Wagner to me. Not that that's a bad thing, just that his music is incredibly heavy to me.

  • It starts at 9:32... Sounded like "Slava to the royal something"...
