It's a movie that can relate to all ethnic Americans. The struggles we face growing up as a minority, embarrassed by our parent's accents, but still trying retain our culture and simultaneously be socially "accepted".

Some of the details are different like how Max the non-Bengali girlfriend behaved during her visit; that Ashoke doesn't smoke; etc

I'm kind of the opposite haha. I just got done done reading the book but haven't seen the movie. From what I saw from the trailer, there are some slight differences in the setting and the pace of the story. However they seem to have capture the same raw emotion that made the book so amazing. Even if you're not the type to sit down and read a novel, I still highly, highly recommend it. Like I said, just be prepared for emotional roller-coaster ride it will take you on.

I am 18 years old and I cried like a baby. It made me realise that I should pay more respect to my parents and obey them. :(
