Finding that the PS2 shipped with YaBasic a few years ago I made this. The PS2 version of the language is very basic and limited and the code was entered with the joypad but it was fun and challenging to work on at the time.

  • Sony supplied YaBasic with the PS2 in some regions for tax reasons, they could say it was a programmable computer (only just) instead of a games console.

  • @mikejoecollins This was my second attempt at a racing game with PS2 yabasic, the first which was more like wipeout without powerups/weapons was a complete game with less graphic detail than the F1 but had 5 circuits, 1 player (up to 3 ai) or 2 player split screen and full race replays with various camera angles. Unfortunately I don't have my PS2 anymore but I do have the code around somewhere. I also did an anaglyph version but I don't have the code for that.

Hah! Im bidding on this too, hope i win, hehe.

  • theres one on ebay UK right now... ;)

i had no idea it was desirable, i nearly threw it away! hope someone who gets it can do this kind of thing! very cool, i just aint got the patience for stuff like this.

  • Awesome, Aint it just amazing what you can squeze out of such a simple interpreter.

  • @hineskamau08 The U.S got the Linux Kit. Is this the same as the YaBasic kit?

  • Where can you actually get Yabasic? My friend has this and I badly want it, I know Sony packaged it with early UK and Irish PS2's, but where else can you get it?

  • wow! i didnt realise how impressive this could be! i could only program a 2D guy that u could move around the screen but his eyes left his face if u tried to move in a certain direction lol i had lag problems too because of the buffering, i think

  • Absolute genius.
