SrCl, NaCl, CaCl2, LiCl, CuCl2, KCl; each mixed with Methanol. The blue given off is because of the alcohol. The Strontium was supposed to give off an orange light, but we ran out.

  • Can you say anything about concentration and dissolution methods? I have tried and tried to get table salt to dissolve in methanol. I just end up with a puddle of methanol and granules of salt at the bottom, and the flame is blue/colorless.

Likewise, I can't get potassium chloride to dissolve, and the methanol flame turns out blue/colorless.

Also, when I dissolve CuCl2 (Copper(II) chloride) in methanol, I get a green flame, not blue. What can I do?
