Proponents of local currencies say they boost community economies by keeping money in the area, but critics dismiss them as fashionable gimmicks and tantamount to protectionism.
Tim Muffett went to Stroud in Gloucestershire, which prints its own currency, to find out how it has been working.

Brixton in South London has launched its own local currency to stimulate trade in local shops.

  • 'HONEST MONEY' is the way forward on planet earth.

I woke the 'FUCK UP' when my friend was good enough to drop a 10 Kilo silver bar onto my foot.

It still hurts to this very day.

  • Your a bit of a dreamer mate!

  • Nice Vid RainStorm!!

  • They have the same thing in certain areas of Massachusetts... they are just coupons that are redeemed for dollars. The holders get a small % discount when they shop with them locally.

  • Great video Rainstorm! I've read where there were some communities who were starting to use their own currencies here -and then of course there's the movements to make silver and gold acceptable to settle debts too. People are coming around...slowly, but it's happening. : )

    Cheers

  • Digital currency is on its way. I'd say it will be here within 10 years and people will eventually be FORCED to use it. If you don't have physical assets, gold & silver, etc... then you simply won't be able to live within any sense of freedom.

  • For as long as it's possible to buy Gold & Silver. Perhaps the town (Shroud) should start stockpiling Gold & Silver with which to back their new currency?

  • @NowisEvollovetion

Ah, the silver version of the "clue-by-four" attack. =^[.]^=
