  • MR. SigEp741! AKA MR. "Ophthalmologist" as a EMT of 5 years I know for a fact that it does not take as much force to put someone's eye out as you say it does. (Especially a football player who works out with his team in the weight room weekly)

  • the late hit on tebow?? so you're telling me that Cox wasnt touched late one time? I understand things happen in the heat of the game but doing what spikes did was just wrong and should be suspended for the season.. hes not that good to say he will affect the outcome of any game so to say that people want him gone so their team could win is nonsense

  • Dis is crazy, Meyer is a dumbass and I will never support the gators again. 1/2 a game when Blount is suspended for the season and Dez Bryant also? Unbelievable and Bryant's appeal gets rejected...smh

  • It is interesting to me the Gator fans that so eagerly accuse others of only wanting Spikes suspended to hurt their BCS chances. I think this reveals your own hearts - you just don't want Spikes suspended for the same reason.

Do we really have to wonder how the Gator fans would be reacting if that were Tebow in the pile and a GA linebacker going for his eyes like that?

(Wow, all the Gator fans just threw up in their mouths a little, didn't they?)

  • Whether the Gators win the BCS, SEC, irrelevant. Right is right. I don't doubt that there are those who want to see Spikes penalized just so the Gators might lose and open the door for their team. Moot point. The only one to blame for being in this position is Spikes. Even the suspension being raised to a whole game is a joke. So now Spikes will sit out a whole game against Vanderbilt (2-7). A two-game suspension would have meant missing the next game against S Carolina (6-3). Hmm...

  • "We're living in the world of YouTube and all that other stuff... (Dammit)"

For all you who pose the "it happens all the time" argument, 2 things to say:

    1) If that were true, then there would be many more eye injuries. I will take the word of pros over yours - it does not happen all the time. As Mike Golic said, these aren't choirboys, but there are some lines you don't cross.

    2) Even if it did happen all the time so what? So does holding. When you get caught, you pay. End of story.

  • The point isn't whether he actually injured the player or not. The intent is enough for me to warrant criminal charges filed against him and suspension for at least the rest of this year. Look at the OSU kid... He did not fully disclose the nature of his relationship to Deion Sanders, and he is suspended until 2010. Another player threw a punch at the end of the game and received a suspension of several games. This incident is worse than either of those.

  • And you don't think it was possible that Spikes could have done that from the position he had - "put some serious force on it to squash it?" I'm no Ophthalmologist, but it isn't too difficult to cause some severe pain and damage just pushing on the eyeball, even through the eyelid. Watch the video. I don't think it occurred to Spikes to do that. But his fingers are clearly deep enough in that helmet to reach the eyes, and it is obvious he was feeling around for them.

  • Everyone is saying "man he could have caused him to go blind". As an Ophthalmologist, i can tell you that it would take a lot more time and effort to cause severe damage to someones eyes than just putting your fingers in a helmet. Yea he could poke one or both of them and cause a few minutes of blurred vision but to cause severe damage you would have to some how get your fingers around the eye ball it self and pull on it. Or put some serious force on it to squash it.

  • Ealey is the same guy that ripped Brandon Spikes helmet straight off on the first quarter and got a fifteen yard penalty and also hit brandon spikes when he got his helmet ripped of when he had time to notice that he didnt have a helmet and not hit him and they dont punish Ealey for that. Yeah since all yalls sorry team cant team up against the Gators yall all want to team up cause thats the only if any chance yall have against a team like mine FLORIDA GATORS ALL THE WAY
