The song that helped establish the Frond, originally a 7" flexidisc.

Guitar, guitar and more guitar. Then some more guitar on top.....

I'm high in a flat
Overlooking your town
I'm waiting for the non-existent sunrise to roll round
I'm watching the rooves
From the 33rd floor
Over to the grey and purple hills of the southern shore.

I see through your walls
The communal hall
And in this city of the free
Where you can come and stay with me
You may look, but you won't see
You won't see...

I'm high in a flat
On a dying estate
Waiting for my disproportionate fears to dissipate
The window is wide
The comfort is cold
Somewhere in the lightbulb-broken stairwell lies my soul.

I see through your door
You're grasping a whore
You took me in and was my friend
But never came up here again
I will repay you in the end...

(These dwellings were erected for the poor and needy of the district and paid for by public donation to the charitable trust administered by Baroness Oldroyd. All flats have gas lighting running water and modern toilet facilities, VR 1887)

I'm high in a flat
Overlooking your town
I'm waiting for the towers of cruel economy to come down
And nothing is real
And no-one comes near
I'll meet you in the air between the stratos-atmosphere.*

I look in your mind
A ticket to fly
And you could say I told you so
To all your neighbours down below
We will be gone but they won't know...

(and through foggy London town the sun was shining everywhere...)

*shattered atmosphere ?

  • if someone still looking for this masterpice on vinyl, you should probably search for the `Time will show the wiser` Lp, a very interesting sampler with: gene clark, eleventh dream day, giant sand and others. on Triad Records. you´ll like to own it!

  • @soeder1 Think I might search out that old LP and play it over Christmas !!

  • THANK. YOU.

  • @youamwho Mon plaisir...

  • Excellent. What year was this released? Peace.

  • @donaldnewmanmedone I think it was first released as a flexidisc in about 1987. The track first appeared on vinyl LP on the Time Will Show The Wiser compilation from 1989.

  • GdDmn! Been looking for this song for years! B.O.B sent a promotional copy of this single to our university radio station. We'd crank up the master pot until the F-n control room shook!

    Thankyouthankyouthankyou!
