Which Studio Flash

Where I live, an equivalent D1 kit is over twice the price of the Elinchrom BX Ri500 kit. I would say that is a dramatic price difference. Apart from the 7 stop vs 5 stop difference, the light control is very similar.
Elinchrom make great products, which is why they are so popular. I don't think there is much substance in your claim that they "had better seriously improve if they wish to stay in the game".

@TheFlashCentre Can you please explain to me something. Anyone. If softbox fires a burst when you take a photo, why is there continuous light shining from softboxes in many videos I've seen? Thanx.

i use a canon speedlite 580EX II and couple of vivitar 285 hv, but i was thinking about buying couple of studio strobes to use outside, so what shall i buy ? do u think that a 600 w or a 800 w strobe would be enough to over power the bright natural light ? and to let me use a 16 f aperture for example ?

Nice video, and Elinchrom markets some nice flash units. Then again, White lightning units offer a step up in anvil solid reliability, and industry leading flash times relative to output power for less money, and the current Alien Bees/White Lightning CyberSync radio control system sends the Elinchrom RC design back to the drawing boards for a complete remake.
Even greater advances in lighting tech from PCB have been announced, and are nearly market ready. Choose wisely.
This aint a review its an elinchrom ad.... >__<

@disruptfam To be fair, the description does say " How to choose which Elinchrom studio flash is best for you, including the new Elinchrom BXRi" It doesn't say it's a review.

I am thinking about buying the Elinchrom D Lite 2 or the Elinchrome D Lite it 2 to go kit as my FIRST EVER lighting. I would buy it to learn the fundamentals of such systems and techniques. Which of the two do you recommend? I have a Nikon D300 body, a few lenses, a Metz speedlight, a Manfrotto tripod, and some other stuff and this Elinchrom kit would be my first ever attempt to try studio flashes. But which one to buy?

@luci66 If you mean should you buy a single head or a kit of two I'd have to say go for the kit. By the time you've added a stand and some light modifiers the kit starts to be a no brainer as it comes with everything to get you started.

i want to know something about Flash durations. I saw that the less Watt a unit has, the shorter the flash duration it has. for e.g. BX/FX 100 has flash duration of 1/1700 and BX/FX400 has 1/850. As the video says one should look at the flash duration. So that means next timei buy a head or kit should i buy less WATT flash head. which means faster flash duration. am i right? or m missing something?

You're correct, in general, lower power unit = faster flash duration (within a particular product range). However, there's no point buying a 100Ws unit if you need 400WS to get the aperture you need. As with everything, a compromise must be reached. Also keep in mind that higher spec units will give you faster flash duration and higher power. For example, the Style RX600 has a duration of 1/2050 s, faster than the BX400 AND 100!
