am from south wales and my brother still today is a miner.... one of not many that are left ... and after the light of last weeks Gleision disaster and the loss of 4 brave men one of whom i knew.. it brings home just how dangerous and hard their lives actually are RIP to 4 brave boys xxxx

Thank you for this - it's one of the songs that I love. I'm from Ponty but moved to Australia in 1994 when the last of my family in Ponty died. My mum had remarried and moved out here in 1986. My grandfather had 'Myfanwy' played at his funeral in Glyntaff Crematorium and that's another song that kills me to listen to.
Whilst I live so far away, I am and always will be Welsh and very proud of it too.

my bamps uncle was from the clydach in the rhondda he move to austraila but after a few year he missed wales and came back and moved up to darwin in england but he died and even tho he moved he always asked about the rhonnda and sadly 3 weeks ago he passed away and a his funeral they played this song

You could swear there was no such thing as mines up the rhondda i live and travel through them everyday and the only thing tho remind you it was a big industial place it the Rhondda Heritage Park and my Grandfathers.

This song means so much to me I can't even start to put it into words. We played this at my fathers funeral four years ago after he died of a pit related illness. Born in Blaenrhodda he went down the mines aged just 14 years old and worked as a miner in various pits until he retired . Did my father ever regret going down the mines? His last dying wish was he wanted his ashes to go back to the Rhondda and scattered over the ground of the first pit he worked because that is where his heart was.
