The first time I went to Le Mans was in 1976, this footage is a good sample of this classic endurance race over 24 hours, and was the 44th Grand Prix of Endurance, and took place on June 12 and 13 1976.
Statistics:
Pole Position - #19 Renault Sport - 3:33.01
Fastest Lap - #19 Renault Sport - 3:43.00
Distance - 4769.923 km
Average Speed - 198.746 km/h
Circuit length: 13,640 km
The regulations for Le Mans were changed again, with the fuel limitations removed and Group 5 cars were allowed to compete with Group 6 cars. Porsche entered two 936s and one 935, while the Renault Alpine A442 turbo also made its first appearance at Le Mans with one entry. The new Porsche 936 turbo No. 20 won in its debut, drivers: Jacky Ickx (B) and Gijs van Lennep (NL)
The race saw the death of Frenchman André Haller when his Datsun 260Z was involved in a shunt at Mulsanne Kink.
That is a cool old video thanks for uploading it. I have always loved the 24 hours of Le Mans and I think it is the most important event in automotive racing. There is nothing more prestigious for a team than to win at Cirque De La Sarthe.
