There is an airplane wreck between Playa Kalki and Watamula. Normally not a shore dive because of the distance to the wreck in combination with the current. Maybe it can be done, but then you don't have a lot of time at the wreck site. So a boat dive is advised.
Today we tried to reach the wreck with the help of rental underwater scooters (trundivers.com) and we succeeded. We reached the wreck in about 20 minutes, stayed at the wreck site for another 20 minutes till half tank and then returned to the beach. This took 25 minutes and when we reached the beach we had 400 psi left in the tank. A clear indication that a shore dive without scooters is not a real option.

  • The wreck is at a depth of about 15 meters

  • It is a Fokker Fairchield 27. It didn't crash; it just reached the end of its career and was sunk as a dive object on February 24, 2007. I have no idea about the further history of the plane.

  • how deep was the wreck? how many meters?

  • Two of these aircraft were bought by ALM Antillean Airlines in the late 80's or early 90's, and were fully refurbished. For just a few years they flew passenger services for ALM until discarded for unexplainable reasons and left to waste away, even though the aircraft were in prime condition. The other aircraft was used for fire training by the airport fire brigade and is now practically destroyed.

  • Wow, thank you very much for putting this on youtube.

Next time take me with you..

  • What type of plane is it? And were you able to track it's career until it crashed?
