Dipa Ma, a Buddhist Meditation Teacher from Calcutta, India, visits the American Meditation Vipassana teacher Sujata in his San Francisco, Apt. Joseph Goldstein accompanied her from IMS at Barre, MA where she also visited.

Here she tours the kitchen, has lunch and does an interview with the small group of students. This is very rare footage as she has died years ago. Munindra was her main teacher in India and Burma. The whole DVD film may be gotten from my site www.begintosee.com You may now download or watch the full 40 min length of this video on Google Video. Films by Jack Kornfield are now posted as well of his footage of Dipa Ma.

  • They showed Ma the oven, dishwasher etc. As they were explaining "This one cooks, this one cleans, this one keeps your food cool etc. " she was probably thinking, well "Good, look at you Americans you don't have to take any time to do anything for yourselves....so you should have plenty of time to meditate right??"

  • @cosnowmomma - Great comment. Actually it just gives us more time to look at Youtube and send emails. Ha Ha. Oh - and forgot facebook. The more time we save the more things we invent to prevent us from going to sit!!

  • What is the uncle saying? If your _____ in the ____________ you will be beautifu...If they remember __________-they will have their solutions. I'm grateful for you uploading this vid. Thank you!

  • The uncle is saying, " that if you go on in the path of Dhamma now, you will be beautiful, you will lovely etc

She says that she will not be far from you so that if you remember her, you will get your solutions (answers).

    Hope this helps.

  • The sister seemed not entierly comfortable. Prep-school accents and manners can, in a non-European home, appear odd, if not 'rude' and 'patronising'. But at least these folks are trying to re-connect to a more subtle way of doing things.

  • well, dipa ma showed the American her spiritual magic, and in turn here, the Americans show her, their technological magic,Freezer, microwave oven, etc.

  • I believe she is reputed to be an Anagami, not an Arhant.

  • thank You very much! :-)

I've read the book. She is a big inspiration!
