This game completed one of my missions. I have now seen all 30 MLB teams! Hooray! Next is going to all of the ballparks (I've been to 10). Of course, I ended up going to the only game in the series in which the Cubs won. Oh well. Special shoutout to Nationals 3rd base coach Pat Listach who threw me a ball for being the only fan in Wrigley Field with a Nationals jersey and hat.
1: After a leadoff single by Willie Harris, Cristian Guzman getting hit by a pitch, and a walk to Ryan Zimmerman, Josh Willingham hit a sac-fly to give the Nats a 1-0 lead.
2: Milton Bradley homers with Rich Harden on first (after a failed sac-bunt) in the 3rd to give the Cubs a 2-1 lead. Walking off the field, he makes a sock puppet motion to the fans. Class act all the way.
3: Livan Hernandez probably thought he was out of it, but he forgot he plays for the Nationals. Derrek Lee hits to to right, and Elijah Dukes drops it (perhaps on the exchange, which would be an out).
4: Aramis Ramirez, the next batter, hits a shallow pop. Elijah Dukes catches it and has a discussion with the umpire on his way to the bench.
5: In the 5th, Guzman scores in Wil Nieves on a single. Game tied at 2.
6: To the 7th. After Koyie Hill singled, pinch hitter Aaron Miles bunted him over, and Ryan Theriot hit a single to move Hill to 3rd, that Bradley fellow chops a ball to third as the go ahead run scores of a fielder's choice.
7: The next inning, Jorge Sosa came in and looked terrible. Kosuke Fukudome singls, Jeff Baker singles, and then Koyie Hill doubles to score them both in.
8: After Mike Fontenot doubled in Hill, Theriot walks, Bradley walks, and then D-Lee hits a two RBI double.
9: A-Ram singles in Bradley for the 6th run of the inning and final Cubs run of the game. Cubs lead 9-3.
10-12: Carlos Marmol comes in to pitch the ninth, first walking Willingham, then Dukes, and finally Alberto Gonzales.
13: Nieves hits into a fielder's choice but Willingham scores.
14: Pinch hitter Ronnie Belliard wiffs for out number two.
15: Willie Harris keeps the game alive with a RBI double.
16: Guzman looks bad on the third strike for the final out. Cubs win.
Final score: 9-4
Final record for 2009 Cubs home games: 3-0. Road games: 0-2.
Baseball is very boring, and hardly qualifies for 'sport'
