When combined with other Kanji, 砂 will be pronounced either 'sa' 「さ」or 'sha' 「しゃ」。

One possible word made of two Kanji is 'sabaku'. 「さばく」「砂漠」

Knowing what 'sa' means here, and also knowing that 'baku' can mean 'vast', one can understand why that is the word for desert in Japanese.

My Japanese is still poor, though, so someone correct me if I'm wrong, please!  ^_^

well... ni~ya is wearing a bowler hat, i usually tell from that. usually its either satty or ni~ya. Satty is looking rather feminine today XD. ruka is usually what you would consider "lazy". watch the video where ruka is putting on his jacket while literally banging the drumstick on the drums and you'll see what i mean.
