The Search for the Next Doctor [Who]

This episode contains running down a corridor and the ultimate final challenge. Who will become Time Lord victorious?


The Search for the Next Doctor was an idea that spawned when the last of David Tennant's episodes aired. I thought it would've been exciting to pick out the new Doctor based on a reality show that tests the guys in different Doctory ways. It would certainly work to parody most reality game shows out there.

Matt finally got around to watching Doctor Who, and he fell in love with it. Back in March, he happened to read to script to the sketch, and he wanted to do it. We thought the best time would do it was around Doctor Who time, and we set a date for the day after the spring finale.

This had originally been intended to be a six episode mini-series, but due to the loss of appeal after the two original challenge, we decided to keep it to one sketch.

Filming took place over the course of a couple of days. The field shots were filmed first. Then we were supposed to film the running down the corridor either at a warehouse or at our school, but both fell through, so we ended up using the alley behind my old work-place. John then wasn't available, so we came across a new dilemma: how to film without him and have him pop up in the next scene.

Our solution: bandages. We had Matt don John's costume, and we bandaged his head. Whatever bandage was left over was used around his hand.

The Search for the Next Doctor stars Matt Beynon, Warren Buchholz, Mel Essick, Kelly Lynn Wilkins, and John Cancel. It contains images of Dan Mecabe, Dan Ostolaza, Tim Gardenier, and Corey Diesz.
