Railfanning Decatur, IL - September 19th, 2009

A great collection of NS and CN trains today from catching the CN "A-Train" to the hotshot mid-evening TripleCrown on the NS. My first full day of railfanning since August 2nd, 2008. This video hit over 2,000 views earlier this year, thanks so much for supporting it. And whoever lives in Decatur and has seen this, thanks for watching it too.

Shot #1 - 9:00 a.m.
CN A431 (Memphis, TN - Decatur, IL) with an all-IC SD70 lashup today. Not a rare thing, but something that usually does not happen a lot.

Shot #2 - 9:30 a.m.
NS 33Q (Decatur, IL - St. Louis, MO) with an ultimate surprise: KCS GP40s dead in tow behind two NS C40-9Ws. I have never seen this before in my entire life. What a catch!

Shot #3 - 10:10 a.m.
After dropping off cars to Tate & Lyle, NS 1633 has about 8 cars to drop off for CSX in their yard.

Shot #4 - 2:30 p.m.
Finally, after a terrifying derailment in the yard gets cleaned up, three trains, NS 293 (not seen in video, had a girl conductor on it by the way), 301, and W5N were finally released out of Decatur and now head out. 301 (Decatur, IL - St. Louis, MO) with Conductor Smith here heads out with a nice standard cab unit leading. W5N is right behind!

Shot #5 - 2:40 p.m.
NS W5N [second section of 35N] (Conway, PA - Madison, IL) follows 301 with Conductor Brooks and a very awesome engineer. Both guys gave some horn for the railfans here at Wabic, which was VERY nice.

Shot #6 - 5:20 p.m.
Well after going to Dairy Queen for a great early dinner and running some errands, came back to Wabic and saw a signal for NS 398 (Kansas City, MO - Decatur, IL). Has a couple C40-9Ws, nothing too special.

Shot #7 - 5:35 p.m.
CN L550 (Decatur, IL - Mattoon, IL), aka the Mattoon Turn, heads past WABIC with Conductor McDonald and takes this loaded short grain train southbound to Mattoon's yard. The units will return to Decatur light engines later tonight after dropping off the cars, with BNSF 6331 leading. 6331 was a new GEVO at the time this video was uploaded.

Shot #8 - 6:30 p.m.
NS 35N (Conway, PA - Madison, IL) now heads southbound with a nice lashup. As 35N leaves, he meets 32Q near Mosser.

As soon as NS 35N cleared the diamond, NS 32Q (St. Louis, MO - Decatur, IL) with Conductor Swank now slowly goes over the diamond.

Shot #10 - 7:00 p.m.
Wrapping up the day with one of the hottest trains on the NS here, NS 255 (Detroit, MI - Voltz, MO) rattles the interlocker and heads west.
