This video is dedicated to my friend Volvoxburger.
He has been an inspirational source to me from day one of my foray into the waters of YouTube. His latest posts on his tricked-out Rhodes Suitcase have led to the discovery of a new dimension not only of sight and sound, but of mind...."The Volvoxburger Zone". I do not profess to be able to live in that zone, but for fleeting moments I am able to catch a glimpse and feel the awesomeness.

I'm trying out a few new things in this video. First, I've discovered Lounge Lizard, a pretty nice software Rhodes emulator. I like that it allows me to adjust the parameters to tweak the sound. Next, through the magic of video editing (and an extra web cam) I have sync'd a frontal video perspective for those of you who have requested (or were thinking of requesting) a view of my various facial contortions during playing. I'm still working out all the technical issues, but for the most part it came out OK. As with previous posts, I've put the MidiKeys in view for educational purposes.

I had some pre-conception of a melody line or recurring theme for this piece as you can hear, the rest was improvisation. I created the backing track using a stock drum loop and added a very simple bass track going from D to F. I then layered strings over the top and put in some funky scratch loops to spice up the intro and outro. All that was left was to look at the sign post up ahead and the next stop................the "V" Zone.

great video, I sometimes play with volvoxburger on ninjam, tho he appears less often these days..

Also I was very saddened to find out tuday his youtube account been closed. :(
