eventually freddie would fall at a rate so fast he would not exceed the gravitational pull of the planet in case the only safe way to stop him without instantaneously kill him would be to toss him a parachute he could strap on while he tosses the portal gun to somebody standing on the sidelines where the could go outside with it and create another hole in the ground where freddie would come out from and shoot into the atmosphere... and that's where the parachute comes in.
