If my job entailed me making millions from doing something I love and that money was not being LITERALLY taken from me, then sure- you could listen to some of my tunes on your iPod for free. Make no mistake, that's all I'm doing. But to you there's no difference, right? I've paid Thousands of dollars to watch the artists I love over the years, but I'm a theif if I download a song? Get some perspective.
@cloud9backpacker i agree it's fair that we should be able to download the odd song or copy a CD when artists are earning the obscene amounts they do...but the real issue is when we take money from the bands who are still trying to 'make it big'. if people can't make a living from playing music we will start to see a serious decline in the amount of music made...that's when we start to lose out ourselves, as the listeners.
Downloading music is no more theft than recording a TV show. Did you record this when it was first broadcast on VCR? Surely a true fan would. Are you saying that, unless all the stuff you have relating to the band has been officailly purchased then you're a thief? Ah, to live in a world of such absolutes. PS - keep your child-like insults to yourself.
Ha. You remind me of those sanctimonious ads they put at the start of most DVDs. "You wouldn't steal a car" ect ect. Well, let me tell you this, I fucking would if I could download it". Before you start crying about "The LAW' (By the way, you're not fucking Judge Dredd you know) that last part was a joke. Further more, doesn't wanking require a tight fist? Right, bored of this now. Piss off mate, and take your DVDs with you.
Piracy is theft. If you download without paying and benefit from it, you're a thief. Oh hold on, I've just realised you're Australian! Clearly crime runs in your blood. Was your great grandfather a pick-pocket?
Actually I'm british, here on a working holiday, but good try. So, you've never downloaded a song? What about live/bootleg stuff? Never tape stuff on the radio when you were a kid? Never recorded a TV show? By your rational almost everyone is a thief. Have you never had anything tangible stolen from you? Do you really put someone who would download a song on the same level as somone who would break in to your house or steal your wallet/car/phone?
