got him nov 25, 2008. He is wild caught and scared, but not mean and this is his first video. I am going to attempt to tame him. First training went very well and after only a few minutes i was able to get him on a perch. Second training (video) he gets on the perch faster.
Third day, he walks onto my arm from perch and i was able to pet his head with a plastic spoon.

He is quiet and has met the flock and seems comfortable and they are to as well with his presence.

  • does that parrot have ring on his foot

  • @TheDeedsta yes, a closed band, it means he was banded when entered US quarantine. I do not know his age or when he entered the United States, but importing wild parrots is now illegal and only birds as such can be domestic bred.

  • for those thinking i took this bird out of wild...i did not, latest up date, jan 2011..he is living nicely on perch , with a hand fed, grey, cockatiel, senegal and blue crown conure...does not make his wild growl, and comes to me, easily on hand.

  • re question of orange wing, a bit aggressive....taming a bird for trust takes time, aggressive due to fear is different that outright being mean....easier i think to tame down due to fear....work in quiet environment, work slow, soft voice, do not do things that immed puts bird to fear.... ie, gloves or sticks, etc, patience, patience...it works!...gd luck

  • he is wild caught, with a crimped band, not close band. He has bonded with the blue crown conure and is more calm with me as well. He allows me to hold him and comes to me when he is on the floor....still working with him ---he is basically just scared.

i am able to handle him and he comes to me when on the floor...still a lil scared, but not mean!

  • You should not STEAL birds from the wild!

  • My mom brought home what we believe had been a wildcaught blue front as well- he was similarly very scared, very quiet when we found him. What she did was make sure she spent about every waking moment with him, until he was comfortable, and they bonded. She bought him before either my sister or I was born, but he's still around today and makes an excellent (if sometimes unruly) house parrot.

  • Remember, you can't force birds to like anything. You will never gain their trust this way. Pluckers result from stressed birds as well. Taking away his ability to fly for his safety might be smart, also has this downside to it. My trick to tameness was to never fear my parrots and read their body languages. Don't insist or force anything on them this makes it worse. You have all the power since you're the feeder, They will come to you eventually so treat them right. Wish you luck

  • that is EXACTLY how my blue front was when i first got him. but they are really fast learners,i can actually pick him up with my hand, still needs work. good video. best of luck

  • Angry bird is NOT amused.O.o

  • tips:

dont force him to come to you fist few days. place him on his cage and softly talk to him, and sing.

after, earn his trust by slowly giving him a treat with your hands, through the cage, if he doesnt take it..try again later.

earn a bond between you and the bird first, if he doesn't go, dont force him to.

    hope this helped :)
