USAF Thunderbirds

2009 Joint Services Open House
Andrews AFB, Maryland
Saturday May 16, 2009

IN THIS VIDEO, you will get to see the ground portions of the Thunderbirds performance in addition to their aerial performance. The team took off with a low show profile and at some portions of the show, did attempt to see if a high show was possible - namely in the opening maneuver and with the delta loop. Otherwise, a low show was flown.

Like what you've seen? If you are interested in purchasing DVDs of specific aircraft and/or of airshows, interested in anything and everything related to airshows (where the jet teams will show up, all airshow performers, airshow reports from airshows I have attended, previews of airshows I will be attending, etc.), a much more easier to navigate "version" of all of my videos, and/or everything there is related to aviation - including spotting guides to my favorite airports and military bases and aircraft factfiles, please take the time to check out Steve's Airshow World at http://www.stevesairshow.com .

  • Could have done a "High" Bomb Burst....

  • iN SACRAMENTO,CA,,,sATURDAY/12,,13,,SEPTEMBER..

  • 42:42 "Missed the break because of your head." LOL nice video!

  • Pretty much.

  • High/Low shows are a couple of the different variations of routines the Thunderbirds fly based on weather. The High show is used for days with good weather, particularly, the cloud base needs to be at a certain altitude to allow maneuvers. Looping maneuvers are generally restricted to High Show weather. Low Shows, although my knowledge is of the Blue Angels, most likely include "rolling" maneuvers, but no loops. (eg: Diamond Roll.) There are multiple other show classifcations as well.

    Cheers!

  • At the distances flown for a demonstration team, it's probably mostly just an annoyance. Visibility of "Boss" would be only barely restricted, however its probably pretty disorienting.

  • What's the difference between a high and low show?

  • It must be frightening depending on the thickness of the clouds. Usually fighters will perform a lateral extension and then close up after getting through the clouds.

  • how hard is it for the pilots to fly paint through the clouds?

  • nice
