In this tutorial we will learn how to calculate the least common multiple of two numbers.

First let's look at the definition:

The least common multiple of two numbers is the smallest integer that is a multiple of the two numbers.

The formula to calculate the least common multiple is to take the product of the two numbers and divide by their greatest common factor.

Therefore in order to calculate the least common multiple you will need to know how to calculate the greatest common factor (GCF).

Let's do an example:

Let's find the least common multiple (or LCM) of 6 and 10. 1. Remember the LCM is the product of the number divided be their greatest common factor.
2. The greatest common factor of 6 and 10 is 2.
3. The product of 6 and 10 is 60: 6 x 10 = 60.
4. We therefore calculate the least common multiple by dividing 60 by 2: 6 รท 2 = 30.

Giving us our answer the least common multiple of 6 and 10 is 30.
