I am not a fan when Sondheim revises his lyrics. In the Burnett/Henshall version he steps all over the best joke of the song "Jacqueline the Ripper" and deletes "the water in France" and the "weather in London" which has great symmetry - not good just to get in the line about "carbon monoxide in the garage". Yes the poisonous gas joke is good but it comes to early in that part of the song for me. So the original version is better.
