Gabriel Mandin (Rumania).
Born in Islaz, Rumania in 1962, Gabriel hails from a family of musicians and both his father and grandfather dominated the violin in the same outstanding manner as Gabriel himself does today. When he was only ten years old, his father became his first violin teacher. By the time he had reached eighteen, he was already an accomplished violinist and his talents were well recognised through the awarding of first prize in the national ´Cantarea Romanei´ music contest in Rumania. Gabriel soon became a principal member of the professional, nationally recognised orchestra, ´Chindia Tergviste´, playing first violin. Between 1990 and 1993, his musical talents led him further afield, touring throughout France and Italy as well as his homeland as a member of the Tergoviste Folk Music Ensemble (Ensemble Folclórico de Tergoviste) participating in several international music festivals. Whilst in France, Gabriel´s talents became recognised by a professional company which invited him to form the traditional music group, ´Urs Karpatz´. Their offering of Balcan, Russian, Hungarian and Rumanian music led them to the most prestigious music venues in Paris, Toulouse, Ruen, Lille, Bordeaux and other part of France including sharing the concert stage with the famous ´Gypsy Kings´. During his more recent career, Gabriel has played a prominent role in a humorous musical film for the national television channel of his home country and has been a prolific charity fundraiser, using his vast musical talents for the benefit of the less fortunate. Since arriving in Torrevieja, he has recorded two compact discs featuring tracks, not only from his original home, Rumania but also from Hungary, Russia, Bulgaria, Yugoslavia, Israel, Greece, Italy, France, Ireland, England and, inevitably, Spain.
