Frances E. Willard Elementary School, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, opened in north Minneapolis in 1910 and closed in 2005. The address is 1615 Queen Avenue North, Minneapolis, Minnesota. The school was named after Frances Willard, a prominent leader in the temperance movement and social justice. She was the first woman to have her statue placed in Statuary Hall.
This two-part video was produced for the closing celebration, held in May, 2005, which was attended by over 400 alumni, current and former faculty, and friends of Willard. Part I includes photos and history of the school from 1910-1982. Part II includes this history from 1982-2005. The school played an important role in the Jewish neighborhood of north Minneapolis in the 1920's - 1940's. In the 1980's, the school was an important component in the African-American community of north Minneapolis.

I went to willard school in 1973 to 1975. Just wanted to say HAPPY BIRTHDAY WILLARD SCHOOL ! 100 years. I was at the all years reunion in 2005. It was nice to talk to all the people who went there before me. The national reg of historic places was called in hopes of getting the school listed. Lets hope the same mistakes are not made with willard , As it was with minneapolis central high school.(torn down) . I also want to wish love to all who was at willard !
