The whole episode, read again in light of Easter, has to be read as this: the wedding represents the Covenant to which Mary also belongs. The bridegroom and bride are God and the People of Israel between who have established a permanent love relationship, thanks to Gods various attempts. Mary, symbolizing the Judaic tradition waiting for the messianic hope, represents humanity in need, that is thirsting for freedom and waiting for salvations full revelation. The sign of the new wine represents Jesus evangelical message.
