Asthma Emergencies

wow over 2 years as serving as a paramedic and never even thought of the epinepherine inhaler,thanks man this vid helped alot(also i checked the date on the epinephrine inhaler and it said it wasnt to be going over the counter any more,12-11-2011 is the date its not going tp be OTC any more,:(

I suffer from severe asthma attacks, sometimes it helps if the person goes into the bathroom and someone turns on the hot shower (don't put the person IN the shower) as the steam can help open up the airways enough to get some oxygen in. I live 45 mins from the hospital and this has helped me bide extra time for the ambulance to come. In one time particular it actually helped me from going into respiratory arrest. Thank you!!

Is an inhaled epinepherine available OTC?

Hello, Thank you for your questions and taking the time to watch the RoyOnRescue episode. It has come to our attention that one popular brand of OTC epinephrine inhaler is now being removed from the shelves. this medicine will be phased out by December 31, 2011. Be sure to talk to your medical professional about how to manage your Asthma symptoms.

Epinephrine is one of the best acute treatments for a severe attack and this can be IM or inhaled or subcutaneous w/e. ALSO, it is very important to tell patient not to take any type of cough suppressant because that will keep the mucous in the airways longer which can quickly make the attack worse. Note: W/ asthmatics you want them to cough to get the mucous out of the lungs.

@RoyonRescue I do have a question though....what is a bipap machine and how does it help an asthmatic during a severe attack? One medic put me on this and it helped a lot, but I don't understand exactly what it does or how it helps...Thank you!!! Maybe that is another video for you, lol
