In a scene from Oz "a game of checkers", Mc Manus, a prison administrator, is taken prisoner during a riot which Said, an inmate, is in control of. These two men represent the naive (Mc Manus) and the radical (Said) liberal views of society. The radical element has taken control and plans total destruction of the existing system, even if it means loss of lives. I think this video clip from 1999 is very telling.

  • Said is like Obama because he wants change via destruction of the existing system. McManus wants change via improving on the existing system. Imagine that the "existing system" is The Prison for Said and Capitalism for Obama.

  • the "poor" argument is straight up bullshit. just 50 years ago, many people were used to growing up poor, yet there was no gang-related crime like in America for example. It's a cultural thing. No one forces these motherfuckers to kill eachother over wich street they happen to live on, they do it because they wan't to be part of this sick gangculture.

Said was just a derranged, self-martyrising black power muslim, who most of the times blamed other people for the failure of the blacks.

  • If Obama was even half as radical as Said, I might vote for him again. Unfortunately, as almanac pointed out, Obama is another capitalist whore. This does summarize the difference between us red blooded socialists and the weak willed liberals very well, with that said.

  • Kareem Said reminds me alot of Malcolm X.....not of Obama

  • I love this show so much

  • @almanacofsleep P.S. anyone who thinks Obama is anything other than a pro-capitalist, reactionary corporate whore is a idiot

  • Its impossible to be both a liberal and a radical, in the political sense a liberal would want to enact moderate reforms, they don't try to change the system as much tweak it in order for it to be slightly more fair, etc. A radical wants to see a complete change to the existing system, were talking massive shifts in the social structures, deconstructing institutions ect. To call someone a "radical liberal" is a complete oxymoron.

  • McManus us for the war on drugs. I more side with Quarn(spelling). He was more a libertaian in the way he rules Oz. Violences was down because he did not want to control others lives for the sake of being king. Ashame Glenn fired him.

  • 2/10 for effort

Destruction among humans occurs from within, and I doubt Obama has much control over that.

  • said & obama are nothing alike

  • Great scene but, sorry, don't see similarities to Obama. Thanks for posting.
