  • I proudly say I made the Elite status THREE times! On C-64, on Amiga and Amiga Close Encounters. Took two years of my life (total playing time), lost 2 or 3 girlfriends and barely saved my first marriage. But I've made it!

And nothing realy happend. Just one more "Right on, Commander", and in the status you see Elite. But that's not the point:

I was young then, and when I played, I WAS LIVING THERE. Lava, Zaonce, wild systems... And I kicked ass!

The best f*** game ever made. Period.

  • Thumbs up if your automated landing computer ever smashed you into the station killing you.

  • Anybody else ever bought a better weapon before a docking computer????

  • @DoctorrDread It was a great game. It's what started the serious space game saga.

  • @FranticMydlo I agree mostly with the last statement ! x_X

  • I remember playing this when i was like 6 on my grandfathers BBC, my mates had Super nintendo's and sega mega drives, i had Elite :) What memories!

  • POETIC

  • @FranticMydlo

i had the C-64 version of it and man did i hate to got killed on the entrance of the station, was another hard challenge after those fights ,made it so much more worth to trade your goods and earn your credits, millions of hours of fun, frustrations and excitment

  • For those who love Elite and would like to play it today you have several options. I have two versions installed. One is the Atari ST version running on the Steem emulator which is great fun, the other is the updated copy (remix, re-make, modern realisation) of Elite called "Oolite" which is almost identical to the original game but has much improved graphics. Both are brilliant, both are free, and both eat up huge parts of your day.

  • safe, bah! 'best' docking method.. race in from opposite side, screech to a halt, flip 180 and burn straight back in lining up at the last moment.. my reactions were better when I was 10 though.. As for Eve, it's ok (preferred it in the old days) but it doesn't match Elite simply cos you can't manually pilot in the same way ;<

  • @lurkerrekrul Nah. Seriously safest docking method is approach front of station and positon ship directly in front of the docking port, then come to a stop. turn to face very centre of docking bay and wait till it is almost level (don't rotate), then engage full forward thrust.

Nothing worse than after an epic long trip surviving battles barely, only to crash on the station :-)
