I wonder if SpaceX or any private enterprise beats the U.S. government (or a consortium of governments) to Mars.

It should get interesting around 2020 when Musk says SpaceX might have the capabilities to make the voyage and NASA will be in its final planning/initial testing stages for a HLLV.

space x is awesome. it trumps NASA every time and is already making profits! lets see... NASA made this retarded shuttle which costs like 60 times per pound than this falcon does... and in fact wasted 70 years of possible development or even a moon landing. people just love it because it looks like a plane. sorry to break it to you, it was a backward step. im sure by 2020 NASA will be history :P good job spaceX!
