This is the future CNN/CBS anchor-reporter back in November 1989, co-anchoring WCIX Channel 6's town hall special, "Abortion: The Bitter Controversy". This excerpt shows Roberts introducing a taped piece about four women, and the choices they made. He then throws to co-anchor Giselle Fernandez, who was conducting interviews live from FIU. I was a co-producer of the special, and produced the taped segments for Roberts, Fernandez, Susan Candiotti, Barbara Sloan, and Dr. Steve Greenberg.
To think that he started out as a music VJ in Canada ... I guess you never know where life is going to take you.
At one point, he was considered the leading candidate to replace Dan Rather on the CBS Evening News ... but Les Moonves thought former WTVJer Katie Couric would be more of a draw.
