An invitational event sanctioned by the International Softball Federation, the 1st World Cup of Softball took place July 14-18, 2005 at Don E. Porter Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma (USA). Japan won the event, defeating the host country in the gold medal game.
