I squealed like a little girl when this was put back in Sonic Generations.

So I am in the midst of playing sonic generations and I just ran past the boss plate and this started playing...being a sonic fanboy I knew exactly who and where this came from..and had to Immediately had to listen to the song

As I recall in the comics, there was an Ivo Robotnik, who was the actual Dr. Robotnik we know from the original games. And then he created a Dr. Eggman robot sometime before he died, which took over his spot. The Eggman robot does believe he is the real thing and no one ever asks if he's a robot, so there's no reason he couldn't be in game canon.
The only thing that bothered me in Generations was "nobody calls me that anymore," and I feel it's the fault of the writer, who also wrote Colours.

If I sounded like a troll,sorry about that.I just felt to say that SA1 wasn't where Robotnik got the name Eggman
So yeah,both names are canon.It really depends on the game I'm if I call him Eggman or Robotnik
