The AU$20m SIMLESA program, launched in 2010, is funded by the Australian Government through ACIAR and managed by the International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT). It is being run in collaboration with the Association for Strengthening Agricultural Research in Eastern and Central Africa (ASARECA) and the national agricultural research and extension systems in each country.
Additional partners are the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT), the Agricultural Research Council of South Africa, the Queensland Department of Employment, Economic Development and Innovation (QDEEDI) and Murdoch University in Western Australia.
* SIMLESA stands for 'Sustainable intensification of maize-legume cropping systems for food security in eastern and southern Africa'.
