Former Interior Secretary Stewart Udall Dies

Former Interior Secretary Stewart Udall is being remembered as an inspiration to those fighting to protect the environment. He died of natural causes Saturday at his Santa Fe home surrounded by his children and their families. (March 20)

He understood one role of government... to control the greedy excess of individuals who would steal from future generations, making themselves rich at the expense of all our grandchildren. He saw the value in rivers that were not used as sewers. He saw the value in preserving wilderness so there would be places in the world where Nature could be experienced on her terms, not tamed by man or machine. He was respected by both Democrats and Republicans; representing a kind of politics now lost.
